Creative Director

This client is an Auckland based progressive media agency redefining how media, data and creativity connect. This role is for a forward-thinking Creative Director who embraces AI-enabled and media-first creativity and understands how to craft high-performance, scalable, and personalised content across digital platforms.

About the Role:

As the Creative Director, you will lead the intersection of creativity, AI and media performance. You will develop innovative creative strategies, oversee AI-driven production and collaborate with data experts to optimise content dynamically. Your mission is to challenge traditional creative models and embrace faster, more effective and more relevant brand storytelling.

Responsibilities:

Creative Leadership and Vision:

  • Define and lead the creative vision for storytelling, content creator partnerships and performance-driven content.
  • Challenge conventional creative processes, pushing for AI-first and media performance-driven solutions that deliver speed, scalability and effectiveness.

 

AI-Powered Creative Execution:

  • Leverage AI tools (e.g. Runway, MidJourney, DALL·E, Adobe Firefly, Synthesia, Pika Labs) to scale content creation and adapt assets dynamically.
  • Develop frameworks for modular content production, enabling real-time A/B testing and optimisation based on media performance data.
  • Lead the creation of dynamic creative assets (DCO) optimized for various platforms (Meta, Google, TikTok, VOD etc.).

 

Collaboration and Integration:

  • Work alongside data scientists and performance media planners to develop creative strategies that reflect testing agendas, respond to audience behaviour and performance insights.
  • Partner with creators, influencers and brand teams to integrate creator-led content into campaigns.
  • Manage a lean but high-impact team, scaling as the unit grows.

 

Client & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Sell the vision of performance-driven creativity to clients and internal teams, proving its effectiveness through data-backed storytelling.
  • Develop thought leadership in the industry, staying ahead of AI creative trends, emerging tools and next-gen creative formats.
  • Present creative solutions in pitches, workshops and industry events.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years in creative leadership roles at an agency, brand, or media company, with 5+ years in digital-first, media agency or performance-driven creative environment.
  • Strong understanding of AI’s role in content creation, including generative AI tools, automation workflows and real-time creative optimisation.
  • Proven ability to create high-performing digital campaigns across social, programmatic and video.
  • Experience in leading creative strategy based on media performance data, working closely with performance marketing teams.
  • Strong conceptual storytelling skills, balancing brand-building creativity with conversion-driven execution.
  • Ability to pitch and sell creative ideas and concepts, influencing CMOs, performance marketers, and media strategists. Confidence, presentation skills and sales skills are a must.
  • Passion for testing, learning and iterating creative dynamically based on real-time performance insights.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and working with data, strategy and media teams to drive effective campaigns.
